Red Cross Honors Gordon Gillis: Maui’s 2021 Volunteer of the Year
A vital member of the Maui leadership team
The American Red Cross is proud to congratulate its 2021 Volunteers of the Year! Each year, March is recognized as Red Cross Month, and the organization takes the opportunity to put the spotlight on the dedicated and hard-working volunteers that make Red Cross relief efforts possible. The volunteer of the year serving the island of Maui is Gordon Gillis.
Gillis is a vital member of the Maui leadership team. As the Government Operations – Emergency Operations Center Lead, he is the face of the Red Cross on Maui, accountable for leading the implementation of disaster programs, ensuring rapid delivery of services and meeting the needs of those impacted.
Gillis led the Maui County Red Cross team during Hurricane Douglas and opened seven shelters on Maui, Molokai, and Lanai in preparation. He also served as the lead in response to the Hoopiilani Highway wildfire. His professionalism, communication skills, and depth of knowledge regarding Red Cross and governmental procedures make him uniquely qualified to succeed in his role of helping the community. And as much praise as the Red Cross has give him, it’s still just a snapshot that cannot fully capture the legacy of service Gillis has provided to both the Red Cross and Maui County.
Congratulations and thank you for all you do, Gordon Gillis, Maui’s 2021 Red Cross Volunteer of the Year!
